How To Train A Dog To Come

An Easy Reading Guide For Pet Owners

How To Train A Dog To Come When You Call

It should be really simple, shouldn't it??? You call your puppy and they come to your feet, then you reward them and that should be it.

For most people though this isn't quite how it goes when they have dog recall problems and they end up chasing their dogs and puppies all over the place, shouting their name as they get left in the dust, with the puppy thinking its a game of catch me if you can.

And if that's you, sometimes it seems like the only way to get your dog to come back to you is to get in the car and wait until they finally get tired and want to go home.

Yet it's so easy to learn how to train a puppy or dog to come when called every time. Anyone can do it. Like anything though, you need to know the secrets to success...
You see the reason that it goes wrong is that there are some very simple and logical steps that have to be followed when training a puppy to come to you when called, or it can all turn to mush very quickly.

So here is one of the most important steps.

Stay exactly where you are! Do not chase your puppy!

That’s right. The last thing you should do is chase your puppy if they do not come back to you when called.

Sounds really simple but so many people go wrong here. It goes something like this. You call your puppy and they run the other way so you move closer to them calling their name, trying to tell the puppy you're the boss and you must be obeyed.

And that’s the big mistake ! You are now chasing your puppy. Yep it happens that quickly.

One minute you were training your puppy to come to you and the next minute you were chasing them.

In your puppy's eyes it's game time...

The rules have changed...

So what are your options?   How can you get round this?

Well the first to consider is keeping your puppy on a long line until you are sure that they will come. That’s it… pretty simple, right? You're in control when they are on a lead and if they are not going to come when you call them, then maybe you should not let them off.

And the second option is to turn, walk away from your puppy and call them so that they then chase you! That way you become the pack leader.

This is perfectly demonstrated by Doggy Dan in the following video during a puppy class at the park.

Getting your puppy to chase you is so easy when you know how… as you can see in the video it really works. No chasing, no screaming and the puppies come running.

Unfortunately very few people are shown these basic steps at puppy class. However, you can find out this and more by safely reading this FREE Dog Training PDF from this site where other FREE dog training videos are available for you!
